The semester break is over :(

Hey there, its kinda sad but its true…the uni is taking off again next week. But I reckon its not too hard this time, cause I only got courses on three days of the week. How great is that?
Well, the holidays have been fabulous. After my last post I made a trip to Ayers Rock or how the Aussi’s call it ‘Uluru’. It was amazing to see the australian outback, kangaroo’s, camels, wild horses and lots of other stuff. Me and my friend did a trip with Adventuretours and visited the Olgas, Kings Canyon and not to forget the amazing Uluru rock. We were a group of people, slept outdoor in swags, had amazing sunrises and sunsets and had an awesome time!!!
Shortly after this (one day) I played the North Australian Uni-Games with my friend Sam on the Sunshine Coast. We represented the Griffith University soccer team, but lost almost every game. But this is not due to insufficient skill level…its more to do with late nights on the piss before the game days!!! lol
Then after this I hardly managed all my washing as we immediately took off to our South East Asia Trip. Firstly we flew to Malaysia and stayed at my friends place in Kuala Lumpur for a couple of nights. I also got to visit my former employee and got to see all of my dear friends again. So nice!!! Then we drove with a night bus to the east coast and stayed the first three days on the island Pulau Tioman where I did my PADI Scuba Diving License. Moreover we took over then to a smaller island Pulau Rawa which I consider to be the best island I’ve ever been in life!!!! Its such a tiny, small and adorable place. Very beautiful, check out the pics! Nonetheless we continued our trip and head to Singapore. I also got to catch up with an old friend and we enjoyed the nightlife, did some serious shopping and enjoyed the big city life!
Wow…it was really much traveling for me during the last weeks and it took quite a bit money off my bank account. Anyways…now its time to work and study again. Will post again if there’s anything interesting coming up.

Back from Whitsundays, off to Uluru..

Hey folks, this is just a very short, brief update, cause I don’t have much time to blog right now! Yesterday I got back from a really nice trip to northern Queensland. The Whitsunday Islands are amazing, the climate is perfect and the people awesome. We flew to Hamilton Island and spend some time there driving around with a buggy, then stayed in Airlie Beach just because it is way cheaper and did a day cruse for some snorkeling and diving. So relaxed!!!!

Also yesterday we had our third MAS Party. This time the theme was crazy hats…..pic’s will be coming up shortly! Tuesday I am heading with a friend to the Ayers Rock (Uluru) to spend some time there and explore the Australian icon!!!

Viva la Melbourne.

Joerg and me were on a short trip to Melbourne last weekend and used our study week very effectively though. Well, the trip started pretty crazy! On the outward flight the aircraft had to return again, because somehow the door was not properly closed and a signal light went on. Well, shit happens!!!! However, Melbourne is a great multicultural city “the best city in Australia I reckon” and actually quite similar to European cities. Much stuff is going on, lots of culture, museums and sights to see and explore. But it was kinda chilly, 12 degrees and even the leaves come of the trees like they used to back home in autumn! Two days we had a rented car and did the Great Ocean Road and also explored the beautiful Yarra Valley! We were actually so lucky. On the Great Ocean Road there is a rock in the water which looks like an arch. This is how we still saw it on Monday! But wednesday the arch collapsed and only two piers are leftover. This week is Exam week. Two I’ve already behind me, and they were actually quite easy! Saturday I have my last one and then I am going to travel for a while. First on an island in the north of Australia, then to the amazing Ayers Rock and after that I am off to Malaysia. Cya soon.

Roadtrip to Sydney

Since last Saturday we are all back in Brissi. All australian universities had a midsemesterbreak for the easter holiday. Thus we had a great roadtrip with 10 people and two cars where we drove about 1000km towards the south and back. Sure thing, we did a few stops in between along the coast, in the hinterland and the mountains. The rest of the time we spent in Sydney, the capital of the state New South Wales. It was a fabulous and awesome trip!!! Pics will be coming up soon, no worries! But now I need to concentrate on studies and uni. There’s a lot coming up! Cya

My new Job

State Hockey Centre

Hello folks,

I finally found a job and its a good one. I am working in the State Hockey Centre in Brisbane as a duty supervisor. My tasks are switching on/off lights, open up and lock doors, water the fields by pushing a button and keep the facilities clean and tidy. Its pretty laid back thing and also well paid. Stradbroke Island

Hey there,
last weekend we made a short one day trip to Stradbroke Island. Its a small island right in the east of Brisbane. Actually the weather forecast predicted wet weather, but all we had was just a 3 minutes shower. That was it, thus do not trust any australian weather forecast anymore!!! Last night we had a huge house party at our place. We had like 30 people coming over trashing the house and had a great night! Unfortunately but as expected it was such a mess this morning. But finally we cleaned everything up properly and decided to have such a party once a month now. This is how we gonna keep our place neat and tidy . Other than that not much happened. Uni keeps me busy these days since there’s the mid-semester break starting this Thursday. Well and…I had a job interview and probably I got a casual job by monday. If so I will let you know more about it! Anyways….catchya later

Hey there,
I just want to keep you informed about what happened in Australia recently. Actually…not much! University is starting to get busy these days and this kinda sucks. I got to start workout a 2000 word assignment within the next two weeks as well as a group project together with a french guy and a fellow from Saudi Arabia. And already tomorrow I need to tackle a small Quizz in Database Management. So as you can imagine, I am pretty busy right now and I am afraid this will remain till the end of the semester. Whatever…..I don’t want to complain….cause I still got some spare time and its going pretty well over here. Just this weekend we went to the Sunshine Coast where we did some sunbathing and surfing. Surprisingly I had some nice waves this time, but as I took the last one I ended up in some rocky area and stepped on a little coral which got stuck in my feet. Bad luck, cause the following day I needed to visit a hospital in order to take the small coral part out of my feet. This took me in total 8 hours whereof I simply had to wait for like 5 hours out of that 8. Public hospitals suck in Australia, trust me!!! Anyway…thats about it so far….nothing big is planned for the coming weeks. Cya soon.

My new car.

Thats the car.

A Ford Falcon Sedan EBII GLI made in 1993. It was the best car in this category I saw by far, features lots of space and comes with an automatic transmission which is sooo convenient. I am sure I can sell it without a big loss when I return back to Germany, cause it is in a very good condition. Just have to keep it in that state. There’s just a soft rack missing for carrying my surfboard to the coast but then its kinda perfect!!! Well, cya soon.

Back from Byron Bay.

Since I haven’t blogged anything for a while here comes a short update. In the meantime I moved into a shared house together with the Canadian Andrew and the two Aussi guys Sam and Danni. Its a neat house, quite close to the uni and it couldn’t be better like it is right now! Great place, awesome people, just perfect. I already put some pics of the house online, just have a look. Well, this weekend we were on a trip to Byron Bay, the most easterly point in Australia. It was a orientation event organized by the uni and we were a bus of international students who had tons of fun!!! We visited a wildlife sanctuary, did some kayaking in the bay where we saw lots of dolphins swimming very close to our kayaks and did lots of surfing. But we also did lots of partying and got to know plenty of new people. To sum it up, it was a great trip. Well, whats on the schedule for this week? Uni is going to start by Tuesday, thus I need to prepare some stuff for it I guess. Furthermore I want to buy or rent a car, cause public transport sucks! And I also need to find a job. I already applied at Aldi last week, the grocery store close to our place, but now waiting for a feedback. On Tuesday we will be having a big BBQ at our place and on the weekend we might go to the Goldcoast again. That’s about it!!! Catchya soon, Matthias

Backpacker Life

Hi,

heute ists geschafft. Hab endlich eine passende Unterkunft gefunden und kann vom Party Backpacker, welcher staendig ausgebucht ist und unendlich viele Leute taeglich Party machen, wegziehen. Was ein Glueck. Hier mal 2 Foto’s damit ihr einen kleinen Eindruck bekommt wie ich so lebe!!! Also eigentlich gefaellts mir ja schon, sind ja nur 8 Leute in einem Raum, ruhiger Schlaf garantiert und auch sonst alles ordentlich und sauber

Werde in ein ruhigeres Viertel gleich neben die Uni ziehen zusammen mit dem Kanadier Andrew. Haben noch 2 weitere Mitbewohner, aber die kenn ich noch nicht. Schau mer mal.
